i PROMISE this is the last one (but aren’t you happy i’ve gotten it all out there now?), and i saved one of the best for last. when my bosses asked me to pop by celine between classes on thursday, i couldn’t say no. phoebe philo? i’m there! this season, we saw an evolution and a stepping out from phoebe’s traditionally minimalist ways. alright, there weren’t paisley prints like stella’s, but the structures were definitely not in line with the traditionally pared-down fashion that’s been coming from celine since phoebe took over two years ago. and i think the gamble really paid off.

of all the designers taking inspiration from couture shapes, philo was one of the most successful in renewing and modernizing these looks and making them appropriate for the modern age (an interesting comparison with valli, right below this post). it was more important than ever to move celine forward, now that one can see phoebe’s influence on every facet of fashion - from big houses like balenciaga to how one person dresses on the street - and i’m so happy to see the direction phoebe is moving in. perhaps this collection was particularly wow-inducing because of this marc jacobs/dior whispering, but whatever ends up happening, i can’t wait to see what miss philo puts out next season (wherever she is).
