my paris fashion week experience: part 4 - issey miyake

i was extremely happy going to the issey miyake show on sunday (the day following comme des garçons). as soon as i found out it was being held in the tuileries i knew this was the perfect way to cap my show-going experience this fashion week.

walking from the metro through the tuileries to the temporary show space right next to the musee de l’orangerie made me feel, again, like some sort of important person. this was the place i saw plastered all over various blogs, photographers snapping my fashion icons mid-step! i couldn’t believe it (nor could i believe how dirty my sneakers got walking through it). of course, we couldn’t enter the tent for around 45 minutes after the show was slated to start, and this was easily the hottest day of fashion week. but never fear, once inside i found a cold bottle of water and a plastic fan waiting for me on my seat. parfait!

the crowd, franticly fanning away; and this was only a part of the space!

similar to comme, this show was highly thought out and coherent, all revolving around the concept of a flower going from bud to bloom. but it wasn’t quite the same spectacle as comme - it was a lot more subdued, and i have a feeling one would really need to see the pieces up close and feel them to really appreciate them fully. my personal favorite section was a blue period about helf way through the show, as sampled below.

to be honest, i think my favorite part of the show was the hair - pulled back into a tight, slightly pointy bun, dyed hues of all sorts fading in and out of one and other.

my best iphone attempt at catching the hair

isn’t that gorgeous? i’d be really interested to see the collection in person, but i really think the creative team should get the most praise from coming up with and executing that amazing hair. gives a whole new dimension of meaning to the ombre trend.
