okay so these posts got a little out of order, but that’s alright. after seeing the gardens of versailles last week, i went to the medieval town of provins on friday. located an hour and a half from paris, provins is an extremely old town preserved in (mostly) the same state it was hundreds of years ago. one has to enter through the fortification walls surrounding the city before wandering down the cobblestone streets lined with wooden, two-story buildings of houses and small restaurants. it’s almost like a less-fake sturbridge village (is that terrible of me to say?), with more forts and less colonialism.
the fort in the center of town offers some of the most beautiful views i’ve seen, looking out over the lush forest to the mountains on one side, and over farmland to the horizon to the other side.
